another baby quilt

Another week and another new baby to one of my friends.  Little Mya Amanda was born last Thursday 14th October weighing in at a buxom 4.09kg (a bit over 9 pounds).  A little sister for Ellie and Cooper.

I was at the quilt shop (doing my course, not just hanging out!) when the text came through so I was ideally placed to pick out the fabrics for Mya's quilt.  Mya's mum loves pinks and turquoise and lovely girly things so I've gone with those colours for the quilt.

The design will feature 12 log cabin blocks like this one.

I've completed nearly all of them, now just to join them together trying very very carefully to match up the seams!  I'm hoping then to try out some of my newly acquired free motion machine quilting skills!

Wish me luck....

the most exciting thing!

Yesterday I did one of the most exciting things I've ever done (yes I've lead a very sheltered life I know).  I did a course on machine quilting and free motion quilting - the free motion quilting being the exciting thing.

I've never done any quilt courses so it was excellent to attend a course like this which covered a lot of things I've done but showed us the 'right' way to do it.  Although our wonderful tutor Christine is not seriously strict about how you do things, she's all for bending the rules of quilting.  But just simple things like how to baste your quilt sandwich (masking tape is the key!) so you don't wind up with puckers when you quilt and things like that.

The free motion quilting was so much fun.  Scary, a bit hard but so much fun.  We all were concentrating so hard but with just a little bit of practice I found it relatively easy to create lovely loopy designs.

Aunty Dor had done a sampler quilt course with Christine and highly recommended her.  So when the opportunity came up for us to do this quilting course we jumped at the chance.  Christine also offers a binding course so I'm keen to try that too.

It was a wonderful day and I came home on such a high, and thanks to my Mum who took the day off work to look after my little Guy so I could attend.

the huger than huge, bigger than big, meandmy2guys 2 year bloggiversary giveaway!

Yes folks that's right, it's been 2 whole years next Saturday 9th October that I've been putting my witterings out into cyberspace.  My little Guy was only 9 months old, he's now a strapping young lad of nearly 3 years.

So it's high time that I had another giveaway.

This giveaway has got to be big so for every 20 entries, I will add another prize (including postage to anywhere in the world).

To enter, just leave a comment.  For a further entry - mention this post on your blog (just remember to let me know!)  If you don't have a blog - tell some friends and I'll give you another entry.

To kick the prize list off - a custom made bag simliar to this one I made recently.  The winning entrant can tell me what colours they prefer and I will make it to order!

So get cracking people and hopefully I'll be back in a couple of days with some more prizes to announce!
