I won!

How exciting - thanks so much to Melly and Rosie over at Melly and Me. They chose my suggested name - Peppermint - for their cute new monster.

I have to choose colours for my little Peppermint to be made up in. I think I'll go for Orange and Green, or Orange and Blue. Not very Pepperminty I know but I think it'll look cute.

Thanks so much girls and I can't wait for my Peppermint to arrive!

the Sunday Stash (on Monday)

I am sure I'm the worst Sunday Stasher ever, but here it is, better late than never (again).

The last six months have seen me become slightly obsessed with spots and stripes. I've amassed quite a collection and my Mum and Aunty often buy me spotty or stripey fat quarters. Here are a few of my faves.

My spotty and stripey obsession has manifested itself as an English Paper Piecing quilt. Mum and Aunty did this quilting course and I think this was about the only usefull thing they learnt. Here is a section of my quilt.

The basic idea is that you have cardboard templates - in this case 2 inch hexagons - and you tack the material to the card board. Then you stitch the pieces together being careful not to pierce the cardboard. Once you have joined a few you can cut the tacking and remove the cardboard and reuse. You can make the templates yourself but it's much easier to purchase them from a quilting store as you need TONS.

Here is my quilt so far, I've been working on it on and off for six months and I think I'm nearly done. Then all I need to do is square it up using half hexagons and put a couple of borders around.
And yes, before you ask, I cut out, tacked and sewed together every one of those hexagons by hand!

new toys

this is my new toy that my wonderful Mum bought me for Christmas. I'm too scared to use it so it's sitting pretty on my desk.

speaking of my desk, my wonderful Husband cleared my desk off so that I can have a permanent home for my sewing machine and stuff.

we had a lovely Christmas with little Guy enjoying his first visit from Santa and then 2 days later his first birthday. Toys galore! Husband Guy had 2 weeks off work and we spent the time relaxing as a family. Especially as I went back to work yesterday - Aggghhhh! - it went quite well and I"m only there 3 days per week. The change is nice to get out of the house on my own but then I did so enjoy having all that time at home with little Guy. But he likes going to day care and playing with the kids and the different toys and I don't feel bad leaving him since he enjoys it so much. Ask me how I'm feeling in a couple of weeks when I'm back in the swing! Here's a photo of my 2 fur kids enjoying their Christmas stockings.

the Sunday Stash

once again I'm late for the Sunday Stash - but hey better late than never - and once again my stash is green. I have a thing for tea pots and tea cups so I bought this fabric even tho I have no idea what I"m going to do with it.
