the Sunday Stash (on Monday)

I am sure I'm the worst Sunday Stasher ever, but here it is, better late than never (again).

The last six months have seen me become slightly obsessed with spots and stripes. I've amassed quite a collection and my Mum and Aunty often buy me spotty or stripey fat quarters. Here are a few of my faves.

My spotty and stripey obsession has manifested itself as an English Paper Piecing quilt. Mum and Aunty did this quilting course and I think this was about the only usefull thing they learnt. Here is a section of my quilt.

The basic idea is that you have cardboard templates - in this case 2 inch hexagons - and you tack the material to the card board. Then you stitch the pieces together being careful not to pierce the cardboard. Once you have joined a few you can cut the tacking and remove the cardboard and reuse. You can make the templates yourself but it's much easier to purchase them from a quilting store as you need TONS.

Here is my quilt so far, I've been working on it on and off for six months and I think I'm nearly done. Then all I need to do is square it up using half hexagons and put a couple of borders around.
And yes, before you ask, I cut out, tacked and sewed together every one of those hexagons by hand!

I take my hat off to you...I'm in love with hexagons at the moment, and instead of doing what you have just done, I went crochet instead...you are inspiring me though....Tam xo
